Cartoons in the Classroom

History teachers might use political cartoons in the class to showcase how people saw the world.  Elementary school teachers might use cartoons to help with reading comprehension.  And well, graphic novels are a huge hit with YA readers and even adults.  Ok so technically the graphic novels are not to be considered cartoons, but you understand where I am going with this.  So cartoons in the classrooms, do we think that they have value.  Well allow me to introduce you TOONDOO.  TOONDOO is a website that allows you to create cartoons with pre made images (that are all free to use) and add your own text.   No you might be thinking that this is just for humor and other silly cartoons, but you will be shocked to find drawing of President Obama, President Lincoln, Gandhi and even Sylvester Stallone.  The backgrounds and add-ons make the perfect scene to use in both educational and personal cartoons.  Here are two that I made for the library, one to promote library week and one in reference to the a great poet (Mr. Edgar Allen Poe).  Take a look and let me know what you think…I would love to hear from you.

If you want to take a look at what some other people have done fell free to look around.  The sign-up is free and you can even upload photos to add to the cartoon.
